Is It Too Late To Start A Successful Blog?

DogBloggerXSmall_1.jpg

It seems like every man, woman, child and dog in the world are now blogging.

I have no idea what the latest blog count is, but it is certainly in the hundreds of millions and growing very fast.

Using Google for just the word ‘Blog’ resulted in 1,170,000,000 returned searches!

I never even knew what a blog was a few years ago. Now it’s the biggest thing since sliced bread!

So is it too late to build a successful blog? Everyone’s definition of success is different, but for the purpose of this blog, earning a full time living from your blog is as good a definition as any.

I started my Blog about 6 weeks ago.

It seemed like the right thing to do. ‘Everyone’ was doing it and ‘everyone’ said “there’s gold in them blogs”.

But is that gold now limited to the 1% of blogs that started more than 24 months ago?

It was only 12 months ago that I had just started to hear about blogging.

The first person to get me excited about the potential of blogging was a guy called ‘Dave Taylor’.

He’s part of the famous ‘StomperNet’ faculty now and it was a Stomper presentation I watched on DVD that really opened my eyes to this blogging phenomena.

It wasn’t any one particular marketing tactic or anything profound that Dave said. It was the pure simplicity of what he was doing that excited me.

Basically he was saying that he didn’t want to work as hard as all these other internet marketing experts and SEO guys.

He was happy making $100k, a year only working a few hours a week. Yes he could make more money if he worked harder and longer, but he would rather be spending his time with his wife and kids.

That presentation really hit a chord with me and I thought it was something I would like to become involved with.

Twelve months down the line and I finally decide to get in on the blogging revolution.

But have I left it too late to make any headway with my new blog?

Back then you could do a search on Google for the word blog and receive a few hundred thousand results.

Today I have entered the same search term and the results are close to 2 billion!

It seems like every man, woman, child and dog have had the same idea and are blogging for their lives!

So can anyone starting today, from scratch, expect to make a full time living from blogging?

…Answers on a postcard please!

But seriously, I’m more than a little concerned that my new, sexy, internet marketing blog will never reach the heights and profits that the few ‘big boys’ in the blogging world are hitting, because I’ve left it too late.

But that can be said with any new venture, right? It also sounds like an excuse to fail and try something else!

So if you are having similar thoughts, don’t pull the plug on your blog. Instead, let’s work out what exactly makes a successful blog and what future trends can help us. (By successful I mean a blog with enough readers for you to earn a full time living form your blog).

I already have a good idea how to achieve a successful blog, mainly helped by my membership to Blog Mastermind, but I want to canvas as many people as I can.

I will do some research and post my results in a few days.

So please reply to this post or email me with your suggestions. I would be especially interested in hearing from bloggers who have blogs less than 12 month old and the more successful, long term bloggers who are already living the dream!

Dog bloggers are also welcome.
