The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss was recommended to me from John Chow’s blog.
It’s one of those books that make you take a long, hard look at your own life and examine how it’s panning out and what more you could actually be doing with it.
It’s not about focussing on earning more money, but more about working less and having enough money to do the things you have always dreamed of.
Working enough, to earn enough, to afford world wide travel. That’s a dream that many people have and a dream that really can be achieved quite easily. You just need to know where to start and how to implement a plan of action.
The perception of prolonged travel is that it is done by the super rich or funded by super rich parents.
But Timothy Ferris explains how you can spend extended periods of time away to travel. This is what he describes as ‘mini retirements’ i.e. taking 2 months off here or 6 months off there, or even a couple of years, to travel around the world. And all on a very meager budget.
There’s much more to the book than what I have described above. But the thing about this book, is the ideals can be applied to a number of different situations. You’ve just got to decide how they can apply to your life.
If you want to escape the 9-5 rat race, then there are plenty of opportunities to help you do it.
If you want to travel around the world and take 2 years to do it, you can, and it doesn’t have to cost nearly as much as you think.
It’s not advocating living on the streets, but simply changing your perception and embracing the country you are visiting.
What hit home to me was the question; “how much money do I really need?” I know I have enough money to live a beautiful and adventurous life, so why not spend my time doing the work I love and living in places that I’ve never been to before.
So that’s what I’m planning to do!
The book comes with some brilliant resources and information to help you make the decision to change your life.
It really is a fascinating book with tales of inspiration and motivation at the very highest level.
The last time I was motivated enough to change my life was after reading ‘Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway’ by Susan Jeffers.
It seems that now, 4 years later, it’s happening again … I love it!
Thank you Mr Ferriss
