This Is The Most Outrageous Title I’ve Ever Written!
Apparently the most effective way to drive a boat load of traffic to your site is to write an effective title.
It took me 3 minutes to come up with this one and I have no idea if it made you want to read more or whether you just thought “wotever” and hit delete.
I suppose if you’re reading this article the title did arouse your curiosity enough to find out more.
Having a great headline for your article or blog post or sales letter or email or anything is the difference between getting the rest of the material read or not. And that could also mean you either making money or not.
Ok, so I’m not saying anything here you didn’t already know. The reason I’m talking about the power of headlines is because John Reese has just released a live beta version of TrafficJam.com
Traffic Jam
Basically it is a site that displays the most popular blog posts currently being read across the Web in virtually every category you can think of.
At the moment the site will be updated on a daily basis, but John is planning on increasing the frequency to hourly updates.
Why should you care?
Because it is a really useful marketing resource. You can use the site to monitor your own particular niche to keep up with the type of posts that are receiving the most interest across the Web.
This is brilliant for research purposes and to help you know what sort of material you should be posting to increase the popularity of your own blog or website.
You can also discuss and link to the blog posts from your own site. If you discover a great post related to your own niche, I’m sure your readers would be interested too. It’s a great way to add new, interesting content. (Just like I’m doing here :-))
One Good Title Is All It Takes
Apparently a ‘key’ factor of the top blog posts that are listed on Traffic Jam all have very specific and compelling titles. For example, instead of the title “This is a good headline” you could use a more effective one like; “This Is The Most Outrages Headline I’ve Ever Read!”
A more compelling and interesting title gets your article read and increases the amount of traffic you get. Poke around Traffic Jam to see what sort of titles are doing well.
In order to get ranked in the Traffic Jam hall of fame, you’ll need the BlogRush widget installed on your blog. That’s where all the data is taken from. Just like the one you see here in the right hand side column.
If you don’t already have the BlogRush widget installed on your blog you can get one set up very quickly. Either go to BlogRush home page or click on the bottom of my widget.
The Real Benefit To Traffic Jam
Still not blown away with the concept? Well here’s the real benefit to bookmarking Traffic Jam and visiting daily:
Finding the best blogs in your niche to comment on.
These top blog posts will be receiving a ton traffic and so it’s a great opportunity to get lots of links and traffic back to your own site by writing comments on their posts.
Obviously your comments should be of value and contribute to the thread. Don’t just write “great post” or “yea I agree”. Write something meaningful and you’ll have more chance of other readers clicking through to your own website or blog.
The chances are if you only write 1 or 2 words and are blatantly just looking for the link value, the blog owner will delete your comment anyway.
Another benefit to writing useful comments on these blogs is the owner of the blog might visit your site after reading your comments and you might end up doing some sort of joint venture or similar deal. All manner of opportunities can open up.
Look For The ‘DoFollow’ Blogs
Besides the increase in traffic form blog comments, you will also receive valuable link juice…if you comment on the blogs that are using the ‘dofollow’ attribute.
If you are unfamiliar with the ‘dofollow’ concept, it means that the owner of a blog has allowed the search engines to pass the link value of their blog to the blog or website that it’s pointing to.
It is basically a great method to build up lots of inbound links to your site. Refer to my previous article ‘How to Achieve a First Page Listing on Google – Part 2’
The problem is, it’s not easy to identify the sites that use the ‘dofollow’ attribute. You could contact the site owners and ask them, but this is very time consuming.
To make the process much easier, a good internet marketing friend of mine – Jonathan Leger came up with a brilliant way to identify these very sites. He has a $1 video that shows you how to do exactly that and you can get it here.
Normally I would have told you the whole process myself, but in respect for Jon’s intellectual property I’d rather ask you to pay the $1.00 to access the video, especially since I didn’t know of this method before I watched the video itself.
He also offers a list of 67 high page ranking blogs he’s personally researched that have removed the no-follow attribute from their comments section. These blogs have page rank value of up to 7 and could bring some serious link juice to your site. If you’re interested you will see a one time offer to download the list.
Conclusion
Applying the ‘dofollow’ method to gain some quality inbound links and using TrafficJam.com as a great research tool gives you a really useful product.
This is one of the best marketing and SEO resource I’ve seen in a long while and it’s completely free!
So go check out TrafficJam.com. Bookmark it and prepare to visit often to keep up with your niche and build those lovely, lovely inbound links!

Cool Post Peter,
I took a look at the traffic jam page you recommended, and I can certainly see how useful it could be from a commenting point of view.
As an added tip for your readers…
If they use firefox browsers - there is a toolbar from alexa that shows the site rank in the bottom corner of your screen for every page that you're viewing…
Also very handy for knowing where to comment.
Actually - just checking it now - I see that you have really shot up in the last week or so!

Hi Randolf,
Thanks for your comments and for the Alexa toolbar tip.
I've just installed it.
Your comments are a great example of how to comment on other peoples blogs!
Cheers,

If it works, good.
I can't personally see anyone reading a blog in the normal run of things.
I'd never bother having one.
Total waste of time. I'd be the only person that ever saw it.
It must work, I'm here and I avoid blogs like the plague.
Good for kids, I guess.
