Sing Like Pavarotti

“I think a life in music is a life beautifully spent and this is what I have devoted my life too.” - Luciano Pavarotti - 1935-2007

Just over a week ago Luciano Pavarotti passed away at the age of 71. He died after a long fight with pancreatic cancer.

I’m not particularly an opera lover. Nor am I particularly a lover of Pavarotti’s work.

I have heard and seen some of his performances though and was always in awe of the mans passion and devotion to his chosen profession.

He shot to fame in 1990 during the world cup in Italy after his rendition of Nessun Dorma.

This historic performance brought operatic classics to millions of football fans and propelled him into the hall of greats forever.

This is a man who devoted his life to music. But not just music in general. He chose opera as his niche and he dominated that niche more than anyone ever has.

If you want to truly excel in your chosen profession, you cannot be all things to all men.

You must decide what your passion is and commit your heart and soul into the pursuit of excellence.

Very few people have such a burning desire to achieve a standing equivalent to Pavaroti.

But when someone does, they stand out head and shoulders above their peers.

This applies to any profession and any niche. If you have a burning desire to achieve excellence, then you will be successful. This is simply because very few people have such a desire.

I could write a very long article about the passion and dedication Pavarotti had and how successful you could become by emulating his emotions.

But nothing could express more eloquently than this beautiful performance, Live in Paris – 1998.

Allow yourself 3 minutes and 4 seconds to understand this point:

If you could capture the last 10 seconds of this performance and bottle it, you would have more than enough substance to become truly great.

Sing like Pavarotti and you will be great in whatever business you choose.
