Why Being A ‘Jack Of All Trades’ Will Kill Your Online Business

 swissarmyknife.jpg

One of the biggest problems you face when you try to make your fortune online, is the overwhelming choice of business models that are available.

You may be fortunate enough to choose a good, proven system that provides you with all the help and information you need.

But once the hard work starts you will naturally come up against a few obstacles and problems that frustrate and hold you back.

Instead of trying to solve these problems, you decide to look at different ‘so-called’ easier methods to make money online.

Does this sound familiar?

This is exactly what happened with me when I first started online.

I was very lucky to find a mentor and a proven business model right from the start – writing and selling my own information products.

But instead of sticking with this successful model and learning everything about it and becoming an expert in that area, I became distracted by other ‘golden opportunities’ that promised even greater riches for much less work!

Hey, isn’t that what we all want, more money for less work?

I spent nearly 2 years hopping around from one business model to another.

I tried the Google Adsense model of putting up many websites with Adsense ads.

I tried the Pay Per Click method that earns affiliate revenue with Google Ads.

I tried selling on Ebay.

I tried many other methods and spent (wasted), a lot of money trying to find the golden goose.

Don't get me wrong, these methods do work, but I was looking for an easy option. A quick, simple way to make lots of dough which required very little effort.

But there is NO EASY OPTION. And if someone tries to sell you a money making idea and tells you it is just so easy to do, take my advice and walk away - fast!

If you haven’t worked it out by now, you must realize there are no easy ways to make money online. (If you think you know otherwise, please let me know!).

The good news however is there are plenty of ways to make a good living and run a successful business online.

What I’m talking about here is to be eventually making a full time living working from home or anywhere else you decide to work if you have a laptop.

But here’s the secret you need to know:

You must follow one business model and one business model only.

That’s it. That is the secret to making consistent money, full time online.

All the methods I have mentioned above and many more besides will work for you if you stick with them.

You don’t have to be an online pioneer or reinvent the wheel. You just need to follow a proven business formula and become an expert in that subject.

Take some time to look at lots of different business models that are available. Ask yourself if it is the kind of business you could see yourself working on every single day and possibly for years to come.

Finding something that you are really interested in is one of the most important factors when deciding on a business model.

Once you’ve made your choice you will probably feel totally relieved. This is it, this is your new business model and you are going to become an expert in this field.

Become bloody minded in your approach. Stay totally focused and avoid any other ‘golden opportunities’ you hear about.

Delete all those emails that aren’t relevant anymore. Better still, unsubscribe to them.

This is all part of your new ‘cleansing period’ and you will achieve so much more in less time than you ever imagined.

Now find a mentor in your chosen field. Study them and learn everything about their business.

If someone else is making lots of money doing something that interests you and it is something that you could also do – simply copy them or listen to them when they tell you what to do!

Remember you don’t need to reinvent the wheel. You just need a proven system that you can duplicate.

Be aware of other ‘gurus’ in the same or similar fields, because the same distracting influences will happen again.

Like your business model - Stick with one mentor and one mentor only.

Before long you’ll become an expert yourself in your chosen business and that’s when you’ll start to make a good living.

Expect problems to arise and to become frustrated when things don’t work out right away. This is a natural process of building an online business.

If you accept that from the start, you’ll be in the right state of mind to deal with any problems when they do arrive.

And by working through these problems and learning as you go, you become more of an expert, which can only improve your situation.

Now get to work and build your online business!

Whether you are totally new and starting out for the first time or you want to start over again, there’s no reason why you can’t become successful online.

There’s nothing more exciting than starting from a blank piece of paper. To your success!

Peter

I don't agree with the sticking with one mentor comment. I have a few and all of them bring different things to the table. I think it's more important to pick the right mentors than limiting yourself to a specific number.

Hi Brian,

The problem I see is that of distraction. Jumping from one mentor to another is the same as jumping from one business model to another.

They each have their own systems.

I agree that once someone becomes more experienced and have started to make some money online, then it is worth seeking out other experts and seeing what they can bring to the table.

I would suggest to research the type of experts that can help you and make contact with them.

There's a whole new view point here which I might talk about in a future article.

I agree with you Peter in so far as there are only so many hats one can fit on one's head at the same time. We are presented as a newbie with multiple choice options, in fact we are given them on a platter with someone spoon feeding us until we're so info overloaded its not surprising that our hard drives are stuffed and our web sites are skinny.

Whether or not you become an expert is another issue, but I agree that its wise to choose one hat and wear it until you are competent and have a stream of income wearing it.If then you want to wear another hat, that's a choice for change.

Multitasking generally means split attention resulting in a dilution of enjoyment and efficiency. Blended tasks require a large dedicated chunk of time.

Do one thing well, rest on the weekend and feel happy and accomplished.
